Nikau Hill Nursery and Water Gardens

Welcome to Nikau Hill Nursery’s gardening pages.

This site is for gardening enthusiasts and for learners. We are a family business with a nursery, water gardens and boutique garden centre near Marton. We started in a small way 12 years ago and have grown larger and larger with time. These days we have three staff plus ourselves working in and on the business. This year we have decided to update our web site thoroughly, and have put a lot more helpful tips on it and have introduced a shopping cart make it easier to buy our plants and have them sent by courier. You can also visit the nursery as we enjoy meeting other keen gardeners and even folk who ‘have to’ garden. That is why we have an information page, descriptions and pictures. These pages may help you with some common problems. Please feel free to contact us with any questions and we do not mind at all if you draw up your current garden landscape so that we can help you plan a revamped area or new spot.

We are the weekend destination for the locals in the Rangitikei, Manawatu and Wanganui areas. Our gardens and nursery are open to view on a take it as you find it basis. The ducks love it when you bring bread and we have large numbers of birds in the garden now it is developed. There are nine waterlily ponds and two larger ponds and goldfish as well. We are open most days but closed on Mondays. We supply lunches and teas for larger groups by appointment only. There is a bus park available.

Specialise in large grade perennials of which we have hundreds, many not commonly found in garden centres. Our plants are divided into sections to help you narrow down your choices. We have a large collection of photos and hopefully most will be loaded soon.

Aquatic plant specialists we grow many marginal, oxygen, bog and wetlands plants and trees. More information about these plants may be found in our information pages.

As well as these we grow large numbers of other perennial groundcovers and shade plants for dry and coastal positions.

Our native trees, climbers, grasses and flowering shrubs take up the other half of our nursery and there are sections for them too.
